Performance testing methods for acrylic sheets

2023-09-01

Acrylic, is a general term for acrylic and methacrylic chemicals. This includes monomers, panels, pellets, resins, and composite materials. Acrylic panels are polymerized from methyl methacrylate monomer (MMA), known as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) panel organic glass. "Organic glass" originates from the trade name "Oroglas" (a type of PMMA panel) and is taken from "Organic Glass" (also known as organic glass).

Quality testing method for acrylic sheet:

1、 Thickness identification of acrylic sheet: An important characteristic of acrylic sheet is to measure it by thickness. Usually, the thickness is sufficient, and when purchasing, it is necessary to ask clearly about the thickness, which is a key factor.

2、 Identification of transparency of acrylic panels: Good acrylic panels emit very pure light after being exposed to white light, without yellowing or blueing, and good panels have a higher transparency. The appearance color of pure new acrylic sheet is pure, while the appearance of recycled sheet is yellowish.

3、 Identification of cutting odor of acrylic panels: Pure new acrylic panels have excellent surface hardness and scratch resistance, and there is no irritating odor during cutting; The surface of the regeneration sheet is prone to scratches and produces a pungent odor during cutting.

4、 Acrylic sheet fire identification: Good acrylic is non flammable and will not produce unpleasant odors during processing. When heating the pure new material acrylic plate during hot forming, it is not easy to generate bubbles and deformation; When the regeneration sheet is heated during hot forming, it is prone to bubble deformation.

5、 Identification of soft adhesive edges of acrylic panels: New panels and good materials are packaged with soft adhesive edges at the factory to prevent friction. So this can serve as a distinguishing method between recycled materials and new sheets.

Acrylic sheet testing items:

Combustion performance test: horizontal combustion, smoke density, vertical combustion, oxygen index, melting point, Vicat mechanical performance test: hardness, tensile performance, shear strength, tear performance, compression performance, bending performance, impact performance, peel performance, fatigue resistance.

Aging performance: hot air aging, ozone aging, salt spray aging, carbon arc lamp aging.

Environmental performance: heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, halogen detection, o-benzene, formaldehyde, etc.

Biodegradability: Antibacterial and anti mold properties.

Physical and chemical indicators: breathability, surface roughness, swelling, viscosity value, moisture permeability, density, light transmittance, heat resistance, flame retardant insulation, tensile fatigue fracture.
